I was glad to see them on the road again, and found the other couple interesting. The story had just enough mystery to keep me interested, but I'm notising how "slow" these books are compared to other stuff I read Not the funnest one, but a good way to ease back into the seriesĪn ok story with some interesting info. I realized it would be something like this from the start, but I will admit I was surprissed at to the shape it took. The same with the stories, but as usual, I've written independent reviews for each story, so here goes: No big mistakes or messy language, but somewhat repetative and heavy. When it came to the writing, it was as expected of the author. At least now I know that's the case before I start reading the next book in the series. Originally, I thought it was a collection of independent short stories, and it was, in a way, but all but the last of the stories were connected in a rather clear way, and it was more like reading a book split into parts than a book of independent stories.īut oh well. Volumes 18 and above are currently not covered in any other media.I had some mixed feelings about this book. There are also smaller differences like substitution of character Yarei for Chloe, but these don't make much difference in the development of the story. One limitation of this medium is that it cannot effectively show internal thoughts of the characters, which might lead to some confusion about their actions and motivation. Main difference between the anime and the novels is that it ends with volume 5 and skips volume 4, though the novels it does adapt are generally covered very thoroughly. Also, despite skipping some development, the manga sometimes shows more vividly scenes only hinted at in the novels, such as vol. Art in manga is also drawn by a different artist (Keito Koume) than novel illustrations (Jū Ayakura), which occasionally reflects in noticeably different character design. To be able to accomplish this, it has to skip and rearrange considerable amount of development from the novels, therefore it is generally recommended to read after or alongside the novels if you want to see the complete picture. 17, however it does so in much shorter time. Manga starts at the same point as the novels and arrives to the same conclusion as novel vol. It takes form of short stories which, unlike Side Colors, remain closely related to each other, they are however less plot heavy than the main story. Spring Log, volumes 18 and beyond, is a series released 5 years after the end of the main story, and within the story it is also chronologically set some time after vol. 17 also contains 3 side stories along with the conclusion of the main story. While they are not necessary for understanding of the main story, they can offer insight into the motivation of some of the characters (see also alternative reading order for side stories). Side Colors, volumes 7, 11 and 13, contain short side stories set in the past, either on Lawrence's and Holo's travels between the towns or even further before the beginning of the story. The main story is composed of 14 volumes, ending with vol. Novels compose the largest and most thorough coverage of the story. There's also a spinoff series called Wolf & Parchment, but even the most basic information about it can be very spoiler intensive if you haven't finished Spice and Wolf. Each of them is trying to tell the same story, but there are some differences due to medium or production limitations. Spice and Wolf is currently composed of 24 volumes of novels, 16 volumes of manga and 2 seasons of anime. Differences Between Novels, Manga and Animeĭifferences Between Novels, Manga and Anime.
